Julia Seal, Chief Executive of the Foundation, “We first awarded grants in the city 21 years ago and we are extremely proud to have been able to continue to make such a positive impact on the lives of local people during this time. We extend grateful thank to our donors whose continued support and long term commitment to the city has helped enable us to build on our grant-making year on year.”
Over half of the grants awarded were received by projects supporting children and young people across the city. Other sectors receiving support include elderly people, the local arts, sports projects, projects supporting education and training, people with disabilities, heritage projects and social enterprise.
Most of the 200 projects funded applied for relatively small levels of support, to enable them for example, to get established, buy new equipment, or run an event. However, this support often enables the project to continue to sustain itself and therefore offer much longer-term benefits to the community. Furthermore, the confidence and assurance that comes with receiving an award from the Foundation can enable groups to access any further funding required.
