Two Exciting New Arts Bursaries for 2010

We are delighted to launch two Arts Bursaries this summer.  The awards have been specifically created to enable either emerging or aspiring local artists to develop their skills towards a professional career in the arts.

The Bursaries demonstrate the Foundation’s continued drive to support the city’s arts community and to encourage artistic endeavors in Milton Keynes. Since April 2007, the Foundation has awarded more than £450,000 to arts-related projects in our city

1. £8,000 Arts Bursary
This award will be given to an emerging or aspiring local artist to provide the opportunity to further develop their arts career prospects, artistic skills, or the freedom to concentrate on a new body of work. The funds can be used to buy equipment, for training or travel, to rent a work space or to simply cover living costs, these bursaries are designed to help and support artists and encourage artistic endeavours in Milton Keynes.

2. £2,000 Adams Bursary for Traditional Arts & Crafts
This is a new, privately funded award for 2010.  It will be awarded to a local artist involved in traditional arts, including stone masonry, wood work, jewellery, ceramics/pottery, glass, mosaics, textiles, furniture, metalwork and the restoration of paintings, sculptures or buildings.  The funds can be used for materials, tools and/or training.

Eligibility Criteria

- Artists who can provide evidence that they have considerable potential for future development
- Aspiring artists for whose professional ambitions this award would make a significant impact.

Arts Bursary 2009
Last year we awarded our first ever arts bursary to emerging local artist Thomas Eccleshare and we are delighted to see his successes have continued to go from strength to strength.  He is photographed here with his partner Valentina Ceschi performing at the city's recent International Festival.  Please visit our facebook page for more images.

"The Foundation's Arts Bursary has been an invaluable support to me over the last year as I try to build a long-standing professional career as an artist. It has allowed me to concentrate on working full time as a theatre maker, provided me with the resources to get a tour off the ground and given me the time to set up fruitful relationships with people across Milton Keynes, the South East and the UK. Moreover, the support of everyone at the community foundation has been a wonderful bonus as I have tried to establish my company as a part of the city's arts life." Thomas Eccleshare, Dancing Brick.
